Self Portrait 2008

About the Artist
James William Flynn, Boston Massachusetts artist, a graduate of Vesper George School of Art and has continued studies at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (SMFA). While attending Vesper George in the mid-seventies I studied art under such distinguished teachers as Robert Hunter, Robert Cormier and Frank McWade to name a few. After art school I pursued a career in commercial art and over the last 30 years I created advertisements and illustrated for a variety of corporations such as Raytheon, Siemens, Computer Associates to name a few. I decided in 2008 to leave the corporate world and pursue a different direction and in 2010 I joined the Small Business Development branch of the United States Peace Corps in Morocco. Bring my skills in marketing and advertisment to this region of the world in order to help various Moroccan artisan with product branding and to better understand good business practices. Since 2008 I have reached back into my past and began painting and drawing for pleasure again and found the passion that hand slipped out of my hand in field of commerical art. My foundation is set within the visions and techniques of such American artists as James McNeil Whistler, Edward Hopper and Robert Henri, as well as bringing the use of reflective light and color from the French Impressionists.
